A Home for Life and the Spirit of Changbin: 9/17 ᴡᴇᴅ. Luma Base Digital Nomad Base Grand Opening

2025 / 09 / 17

Transforming a fleeting tourist stop into a place where people can settle in and find peace—this is our vision for Changbin, a core motivation that drives our continuous efforts. Now, this vision is becoming a reality. The Changbin Township Farmers’ Association and the X-Basic team have collaborated (with planning led by X-Basic Planning’s homeowner and operations by Siao Ben Aiyu) to launch the “Luma Base Digital Nomad Base”. Named “Luma”, the Amis word for home, it has officially opened its doors at the crossroads of mountain and sea.

The connection between the X-Basic team and Changbin began in 2024 through a partnership with the Changbin Township Farmers’ Association. We transformed the Zhongyong Warehouse, once used for storing fertilizer and grain, into a key node in the cold chain logistics system, establishing the infrastructure foundation for adding value to local agriculture. During the project’s execution, we were struck by Changbin’s incredible local character, yet we also recognized its distance from major consumer markets. This led us to merge the concepts of a “green-certified shopping” outlet for agricultural products with the emerging “digital nomad” work model. This fusion not only infuses Changbin with new vitality but also leverages two seemingly distinct business models to unlock the next stage of development for the region’s landscape.

A Warmth at the Crossroad of Mountain and Sea

On September 17, Luma Base hosted a housewarming event. We served fragrant pomelo honey cake and refreshments to express our heartfelt gratitude to the officials and partners who have supported us on this journey. We were honored to welcome Taitung County Mayor Jao Ching-ling, Changbin Township Farmers’ Association Chairman Chang Chih-ching, General Manager Chan Cheng-hsien, and many friends who care deeply about the local community to witness the launch of this new space.

Taitung County Mayor Jao Ching-ling delivered the opening remarks at the event. She noted that in the post-pandemic era, the National Development Council designated Taitung as a pilot digital nomad base. “Luma Base” is not only the first of its kind in Changbin, but its integration with local agriculture is also visionary. By attracting diverse groups to promote Changbin’s agriculture, it will expand market visibility and meet demand, serving as an ideal venue for corporate social responsibility (ESG) and green consumption.

General Manager Chan Cheng-hsien of the Changbin Township Farmers’ Association then shared his reflections, expressing his belief that “if it’s the right thing to do, just do it”. He noted that although the opening in July was hurried, any time is the right time for an initiative that benefits the local community. The opening of Luma Base not only brings new exhibition, retail, and co-working spaces to Changbin but also signifies the Farmers’ Association’s commitment to supporting local sustainable development through innovative models.

Ting Ta-hsiung, director of the X-Basic team, used the metaphor of “a room with two views” to describe the dual identity of Luma Base: a “green-certified shopping center” and a “digital nomad base”. One side reflects the essence of the land, while the other welcomes creativity from around the world. As people pause here, savoring local flavors while focusing on their work and life, they will naturally develop a connection to the land. By applying their professional skills, they can contribute to the local narrative, fostering a virtuous cycle between daily life, the environment, and the economy.

Connecting with the Global Landscape, Rooted in Luma’s Commitments. Taitung County Council Speaker Wu Hsiu-hua warmly shared that Luma Base builds on Taitung’s long-term vision for promoting digital nomad tourism. It not only forges a new path for local agriculture but also offers another compelling reason to visit the East Coast. Tai Chen-jung, Secretary-General of the Taitung County Farmers’ Association, also deeply resonated with this emphasis on local agriculture. He added that Luma Base not only offers a comfortable co-working space but also shoulders the important mission of promoting Taitung’s high-quality agricultural products, a key initiative that Taitung has been championing.

When Local Character Meets Daily Life

Following the simple yet cozy housewarming ceremony, the event officially commenced as members of the X-Basic team, Luma Base store manager Pan Wen-hsuan, and guests toured the newly completed space. The bright and open co-working space features large floor-to-ceiling windows that welcome the East Coast sunshine. We envision this not as a remote office, but as a community hub for exchange and sharing. Adjacent is a light-meal bar and retail section, designed to offer local agricultural products, travel essentials, and souvenirs. Walking up the stairs to the second floor is a more tranquil meeting space. This area serves not only as a conference room but will also function as a development base for new “green-certified shopping” products, transforming local character into sustainable business energy.

With the official launch of Luma Base Digital Nomad Base, this becomes the X-Basic team’s first operational hub on the East Coast. We will use this base to advance our mission of “creating a new hometown for old houses”. Whether it’s our core product, Changbin No. 1 Pomelo Fragrance Shampoo, which creates opportunities for value-added trials, or our “Lingering Wine”, which embodies principles of localized rice wine production and the circular economy, these are our responses to the brand philosophy of “Long Stay, Slow Work, Deep Connect”. We are transforming the beautiful evolution of Changbin into tangible products, experiences, and connections with daily life. Next time you visit the East Coast, consider slowing your pace. Step into this cozy, welcoming home and experience the unique character that arises from the fusion of Changbin’s agriculture, local culture, and modern revitalization.
